About

I’m the Rev. Brian R. Louis, a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) minister serving as the pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elmhurst, Ill. I write about a variety of topics, including (but not limited to) religion (of course); theology; theodicy; older adult issues; social justice; economics; and assorted pastor stuff.

Easter 2023

I was ordained in November 2022 after a long career in journalism. I was a reporter for 25 years. Most of that time I wrote about business and finance in Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, and Illinois. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 1994, a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School in 2022. I was ordained and installed as the pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church in Sierra Vista, Ariz., in November 2022 where I served for almost three years. I am currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program with a focus on creative writing and public theology at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. I like sports, writing, reading, dogs and cats and 1980s era heavy metal music.
